What actually shortens joint life in Garden Grove.
Decades of deck movement leave a mark. On a pool that has been in the ground thirty or forty years, the joint has already absorbed a great deal of expansion and contraction, the walls have been cut and recut, and the channel is often wider and more irregular than it started. None of that is a problem for a properly sized bead on correctly set backer rod, but it is exactly the situation where a rushed job fails fast. Garden Grove is not unusual in that respect, it is simply typical of Orange County. The pools near West Grove, Woodbury and Garden Park were mostly built within the same decade, so their joints are hitting the end of their service life at roughly the same time.
