What actually shortens joint life in Huntington Beach.
Beachside decks fail from the edges in. Salt and sand collect at the joint because it is the lowest point on the surface, and the bead ends up sitting in a damp, abrasive trough for most of the year. Add year round use and the wet and dry cycling that comes with it, and the joints we open up near the sand are usually further gone than their age suggests. Across Huntington Beach the pattern is consistent enough that we can usually tell from one photo how long a joint has left. The decks around Huntington Harbour, Seacliff, Downtown and Edwards Hill are no different, and neither is the fix: the whole bead out, wall to wall, and a new one that can actually move.
