What actually shortens joint life in Santa Ana.
The pools here are older, and age is the variable that matters most. An original coping on a pool that predates modern sealants has usually been through at least one repair already, and more often than not that repair was an overlay: new material squeezed on top of old, hardened material rather than a full removal. An overlay bonds to the failed layer underneath, not to the concrete, so it inherits the failure. Most of the joints we open up in these neighbourhoods have a previous patch buried in them. Across Santa Ana the pattern is consistent enough that we can usually tell from one photo how long a joint has left. The decks around Floral Park, Park Santiago, South Coast Metro and Wilshire Square are no different, and neither is the fix: the whole bead out, wall to wall, and a new one that can actually move.
