Local Conditions
What actually shortens joint life in Chula Vista.
Two conditions here shorten joint life more than anywhere else we work. The first is the temperature range, which is wider than the coast by a long way and puts more mechanical work through the bead every year. The second is the water, which is hard enough to leave visible mineral deposits along the joint line and in the coping stone. Neither is dramatic on its own. Together they age a joint quickly. In Chula Vista that shows up on the decks around Eastlake, Otay Ranch, Rancho del Rey and Bonita border, which is where most of our San Diego County work starts: a joint that still looks continuous from the patio door and is already open when you kneel on it.
